On a boat, timber is both structural and beautiful; the sea and the damp are its hardest test. The wrong material or careless workmanship soon cracks, blisters and rots. At Care, joinery is done with the right timber and the right glue, with the conditions of the sea in mind: from interior furniture to teak detailing, from renewing rot to made-to-measure production. If a full replacement isn't needed, we repair the part locally rather than replacing the whole.

FAQ
How do you spot rotten timber?+
Softening, darkening colour, blistered varnish and a damp smell are the signs. Most rot starts from a leak; we find the source first (a hatch, a portlight, the deck) and then renew the timber - otherwise the new timber rots too.
Which timber and glue do you use?+
Depending on the job, teak, mahogany or marine plywood; and waterproof (epoxy/polyurethane) systems for the joints. Household furniture materials fail quickly on a boat - marine-grade material is essential.
Partial repair or full replacement?+
We look at a partial repair first: the sound area is kept and only the affected part is renewed. Structural or widespread rot calls for full renewal - we make the call by measurement.
Can you make a bespoke or missing part?+
Yes: a missing cabinet door, shelf or detail is measured on site, produced from a template and finished to match the existing look.
Are varnish and finishing included?+
Yes; the life of a joinery job is decided at the finish. Sanding, priming and coat upon coat of varnish/protection are applied, and the maintenance routine is added to your file at handover.
